  1. I'm a 55 year old woman just learning to ride. I started out in a Western saddle, but due to knee pain have switched over to a Jumpers saddle and am persuing hunter/jumping training. Now I'm having issues with a weak right ankle that wants to turn out when riding 2 point. I don't have much pain in my quads while riding 2 point (though when I get off the horse my legs are quite rubbery), but my ankle turning out is excrusciating, is this something that will improve over time as my balance and strength improve? During childhood I sprained this ankle numerous times and wonder if this is going to be an on going problem. In all your studies have you come upon exercises to help strenthen ankles? I spend so much of my consintration on the ankle that my instructor is constantly having to remind me to drop my other ankle and comments on the nice flexation in my pained ankle which has actually collasped into its position. I'm really enjoying the lessons and want to continue in my training, so am seeking out any information that may be out there.

    1. Hi It would seem to me that Hunt seat would put excessive strain on your ankle. Western or Dressage would be a preferred discipline where there is more emphasis on sitting rather then 2 point. However if you are committed to Hunt seat, have you looked into wrapping your ankle with a support bandage and or Physical Therapy to build it back up? Hope this helps :)
